They said to Him, "Grant that we 1may sit, one on Your right and one on Your left, in Your glory."

But Jesussaid to them, "You do not knowwhat you are asking. Are you able2to drink the cup that I drink, or3to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?"

They said to Him, "We are able." And Jesussaid to them, "The cup that I drink4you shall drink; and you shall be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized.

"But to sit on My rightor on My left, this is not Mine to give; 5but it is for those for whom it has been prepared."

6Hearing this, the tenbegan to feelindignant with James and John.

Calling them to Himself, Jesussaid to them, "You know that those who are recognized as rulers of the Gentileslord it over them; and their greatmenexerciseauthorityover them.

"But it is not thiswayamong you, 7but whoever*wishes to becomegreatamong you shall be your servant;

and whoever*wishes to be firstamong you shall be slave of all.

"For even the Son of Man8did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."
Bartimaeus Receives His Sight
469Then they came to Jericho. And 10as He was leavingJericho with His disciples and a largecrowd, a blindbeggar named Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the road.
