27"1He is not the Godaof the dead, but of the living; you are greatlymistaken."282One of the scribescame and heard them arguing, and 3recognizing that He had answered them well, asked Him, "Whatcommandment is the bforemost of all?"
29Jesusanswered, "The foremost is, '4HEAR, O ISRAEL! THE LORD OUR GOD IS ONELORD;305AND YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.'31"The second is this, '6YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.' There is noothercommandmentgreater than these."32
The scribesaid to Him, "Right, Teacher; You have trulystated that 7HE IS ONE, AND THERE IS NOONEELSEBESIDES HIM;
338AND TO LOVE HIM WITH ALL THE HEART AND WITH ALL THE UNDERSTANDING AND WITH ALL THE STRENGTH, AND TO LOVE ONE'S NEIGHBOR AS HIMSELF, 9is muchmore than allburntofferings and sacrifices."
When Jesussaw that he had answeredintelligently, He said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God."10After that, noone would venture to ask Him anymorequestions.

And 15the largecrowdeenjoyedlistening to Him.
