"1He is not the God of the dead, but of the living; you are greatlymistaken."

2One of the scribescame and heard them arguing, and 3recognizing that He had answered them well, asked Him, "Whatcommandment is the foremost of all?"

Jesusanswered, "The foremost is, '4HEAR, O ISRAEL! THE LORD OUR GOD IS ONELORD;

5AND YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.'

"The second is this, '6YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.' There is noothercommandmentgreater than these."

The scribesaid to Him, "Right, Teacher; You have truly*stated that 7HE IS ONE, AND THERE IS NOONEELSEBESIDES HIM;

8AND TO LOVE HIM WITH ALL THE HEART AND WITH ALL THE UNDERSTANDING AND WITH ALL THE STRENGTH, AND TO LOVE ONE'S NEIGHBOR AS HIMSELF, 9is muchmore than allburntofferings and sacrifices."

When Jesussaw that he had answeredintelligently, He said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God."10After that, noone would venture to ask Him anymorequestions.

"Davidhimselfsaid in the HolySpirit,'14THE LORDSAID TO MY LORD,"SIT AT MY RIGHTHAND,UNTIL I PUT YOUR ENEMIESBENEATH YOUR FEET."'

"Davidhimselfcalls Him 'Lord '; so in whatsense is He his son?" And 15the largecrowdenjoyedlistening to Him.
