1While He was in 2Bethany at the home of Simon the leper, and reclining at the table, there came a woman with an alabastervial of very3costlyperfume of purenard; and she broke the vial and poured it over His head.

But some were indignantly remarking to oneanother, "Why* has thisperfumebeenwasted?

"For thisperfumemight have been sold for overthreehundreddenarii, and the money given to the poor." And they were scolding her.

But Jesussaid, "Let her alone; why do you bother* her? She has done a gooddeed to Me.

"For you alwayshave4the poor with you, and whenever you wish you candogood to them; but you do not alwayshave Me.

"She has donewhat she could; 5she has anointed My bodybeforehand for the burial.

"Truly I say to you, 6wherever* the gospel is preached in the wholeworld, whatthiswoman has done will also be spoken of in memory of her."

7ThenJudasIscariot, 8who was one of the twelve, wentoff to the chiefpriests in order to betray Him to them.

They were glad when they heard this, and promised to give him money. And he began seekinghow to betray Him at an opportunetime.
