In the sameway the chiefpriestsalso, along with the scribes, were mocking Him amongthemselves and saying, "1He savedothers; He cannot*saveHimself.

"Let this Christ, 2the King of Israel, nowcomedown from the cross, so that we may see and believe!" 3Those who were crucified with Him were alsoinsulting Him.

4When the 5sixthhourcame, darknessfellover the wholelanduntil the 6ninthhour.

At the 7ninthhourJesuscried out with a loudvoice, "8ELOI, ELOI, LAMASABACHTHANI?"which is translated, "MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY* HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?"

When some of the bystandersheard it, they began saying, "Behold, He is calling for Elijah."

Someoneran and filled a sponge with sourwine, put it on a reed, and gave Him a drink, saying, "Let us seewhetherElijah will come to take Him down."

9And Jesusuttered a loudcry, and breathed His last.

10And the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.

11When the centurion, who was standingright in front of Him, saw the way He breathed His last, he said, "Trulythisman was the Son of God!"

12There were also some womenlooking on from a distance, amongwhom were MaryMagdalene, and Mary the mother of James13the Less and Joses, and 14Salome.
