And above His head they put up the chargeagainst Him which read, "1THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS."

At that timetworobbers were crucified with Him, one on the right and one on the left.

And thosepassing by were hurlingabuse at Him, 2wagging their heads

and saying, "3You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in threedays, saveYourself! 4If You are the Son of God, comedown from the cross."

In the sameway the chiefpriestsalso, along with the scribes and elders, were mocking Him and saying,

"5He savedothers; He cannot*saveHimself. 6He is the King of Israel; let Him nowcomedown from the cross, and we will believe in Him.
43
"7HE TRUSTS IN GOD; LET GODRESCUE Him now, IF HE DELIGHTS IN HIM; for He said, 'I am the Son of God.' "

8The robbers who had been crucified with Him were alsoinsulting Him with the same words.

9Now from the sixthhourdarknessfell upon all the landuntil the ninthhour.

About the ninthhourJesuscried out with a loudvoice, saying, "10ELI, ELI, LAMASABACHTHANI?" that is, "MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?"

And some of those who were standingthere, when they heard it, began saying, "Thisman is calling for Elijah."
