Jesus Is Buried
573When it was evening, there came a richman from Arimathea, namedJoseph, whohimself had alsobecome a disciple of Jesus.

Thismanwent to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. ThenPilateordered it to be given to him.

And Josephtook the body and wrapped it in a cleanlinencloth,

and laid it in his own newtomb, which he had hewn out in the rock; and he rolled4a largestone against the entrance of the tomb and wentaway.

And 5MaryMagdalene was there, and the otherMary, sittingopposite the grave.

Now on the nextday, the dayafter6the preparation, the chiefpriests and the Phariseesgatheredtogether with Pilate,

and said, "Sir, we remember that when He was stillalive that deceiversaid, '7Afterthreedays I am to riseagain.'

"Therefore, giveorders for the grave to be madesecureuntil the thirdday, otherwise His disciples may come and steal Him away and say to the people, 'He has risen from the dead,' and the lastdeception will be worse than the first."

Pilatesaid to them, "You have a 8guard; go, make it as secure as you knowhow."

And they went and made the gravesecure, and along with 9the guard they set a 10seal on 11the stone.
