571When it was evening, there came a richman from Arimathea, namedJoseph, whohimself had alsobecome a disciple of Jesus.
58Thismanwent to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. ThenPilateordered it to be given to him.
And Josephtook the body and wrapped it in a cleanlinencloth,
and laid it in his own newtomb, which he had hewn out in the rock; and he rolled2a largestone against the entrance of the tomb and wentaway.
And 3MaryMagdalene was there, and the otherMary, sittingopposite the grave.
62Now on the nextday, athe dayafter4the preparation, the chiefpriests and the Phariseesgatheredtogether with Pilate,
and said, "Sir, we remember that when He was stillalive that deceiversaid, '5Afterthreedays I am to riseagain.'
64"Therefore, giveorders for the grave to be madesecureuntil the thirdday, otherwise His disciples may come and steal Him away and say to the people, 'He has risen from the dead,' and the lastdeception will be worse than the first."
65Pilatesaid to them, "You have a 6guard; go, make it as secure as you knowhow."
And they went and made the gravesecure, and along with 7the guard they set a 8seal on 9the stone.
