1"Beware of practicing your righteousnessbeforemen1to be noticed by them; otherwise you havenoreward with your Fatherwho is in heaven.2"Sowhen you agive to the poor, do not sound a trumpetbefore you, as the hypocritesdo in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they 2may be honored by men. 3Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.3"But when you bgive to the poor, do not let your lefthandknowwhat your righthand is doing,4so that your cgiving will be in secret; and 4your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.5"When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to 5stand and pray in the synagogues and on the streetcornersd6so that they may be seen by men. 7Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.6"But you, when you pray, 8go into your innerroom, close your door and pray to your Fatherwho is in secret, and 9your Fatherwhosees what is done in secret will reward you.7"And when you are praying, do not usemeaninglessrepetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their 10manywords.8"So do not be like them; for 11your Fatherknowswhat you needbefore you ask Him.9"12Pray, then, in thisway:'Our Fatherwho is in heaven,Hallowed be Your name.10'13Your kingdomcome.14Your will be done,On earth as it is in heaven.11'15Give us thisdayeour dailybread.12'And 16forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.13'And do not lead us into temptation, but 17deliver us from f18evil. g[For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the gloryforever.
