Exodus 20:1-5

1 Then God spoke all these words, saying,
2 "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
3 "You shall have no other gods before Me.
4 "You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth.
5 "You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me,

Exodus 34:10-15

10 Then God said, "Behold, I am going to make a covenant. Before all your people I will perform miracles which have not been produced in all the earth nor among any of the nations; and all the people among whom you live will see the working of the LORD , for it is a fearful thing that I am going to perform with you.
11 "Be sure to observe what I am commanding you this day: behold, I am going to drive out the Amorite before you, and the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Hivite and the Jebusite.
12 "Watch yourself that you make no covenant with the inhabitants of the land into which you are going, or it will become a snare in your midst.
13 "But rather, you are to tear down their altars and smash their sacred pillars and cut down their Asherim
14 -for you shall not worship any other god, for the LORD , whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God -
15 otherwise you might make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land and they would play the harlot with their gods and sacrifice to their gods, and someone might invite you to eat of his sacrifice,

Deuteronomy 4:23-26

23 "So watch yourselves, that you do not forget the covenant of the LORD your God which He made with you, and make for yourselves a graven image in the form of anything against which the LORD your God has commanded you.
24 "For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.
25 "When you become the father of children and children's children and have remained long in the land, and act corruptly, and make an idol in the form of anything, and do that which is evil in the sight of the LORD your God so as to provoke Him to anger,
26 I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that you will surely perish quickly from the land where you are going over the Jordan to possess it. You shall not live long on it, but will be utterly destroyed.

Deuteronomy 5:1-9

1 Then Moses summoned all Israel and said to them: "Hear, O Israel, the statutes and the ordinances which I am speaking today in your hearing, that you may learn them and observe them carefully.
2 "The LORD our God made a covenant with us at Horeb.
3 "The LORD did not make this covenant with our fathers, but with us, with all those of us alive here today.
4 "The LORD spoke to you face to face at the mountain from the midst of the fire,
5 while I was standing between the LORD and you at that time, to declare to you the word of the LORD ; for you were afraid because of the fire and did not go up the mountain. He said,

Deuteronomy 6:10-19

10 "Then it shall come about when the LORD your God brings you into the land which He swore to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to give you, great and splendid cities which you did not build,
11 and houses full of all good things which you did not fill, and hewn cisterns which you did not dig, vineyards and olive trees which you did not plant, and you eat and are satisfied,
12 then watch yourself, that you do not forget the LORD who brought you from the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
13 "You shall fear only the LORD your God; and you shall worship Him and swear by His name.
14 "You shall not follow other gods, any of the gods of the peoples who surround you,
15 for the LORD your God in the midst of you is a jealous God; otherwise the anger of the LORD your God will be kindled against you, and He will wipe you off the face of the earth.
16 "You shall not put the LORD your God to the test, as you tested Him at Massah.
17 "You should diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and His testimonies and His statutes which He has commanded you.
18 "You shall do what is right and good in the sight of the LORD , that it may be well with you and that you may go in and possess the good land which the LORD swore to give your fathers,
19 by driving out all your enemies from before you, as the LORD has spoken.

19 Then Joshua said to the people, "You will not be able to serve the LORD , for He is a holy God. He is a jealous God; He will not forgive your transgression or your sins.
