I looked, and behold, an a1ashenhorse ; and he who sat on it had the name2Death ; and 3Hades was following with him. Authority was given to them over a fourth of the earth, 4to kill with sword and with famine and with bpestilence and by the wildbeasts of the earth.
9When the Lamb broke the fifthseal, I saw5underneath the 6altar the 7souls of those who had been slain8because of the word of God, and because of the 9testimonywhich they had maintained ;
and they cried out with a loudvoice, saying, "10Howlong , O c11Lord, 12holy and true, dwill You refrain from 13judging and avenging our blood on 14those who dwell on the earth ?"
And 15there was given to each of them a whiterobe ; and they were told that they should 16rest for a littlewhilelonger, 17until the number of their fellowservants and their brethren who were to be killedeven as they had been, would be 18completedalso.
I lookedwhen He broke the sixthseal, and there was a great19earthquake ; and the 20sunbecameblack as 21sackcloth made of hair, and the wholemoonbecamelikeblood ;
and 22the stars of the skyfell to the earth, 23as a figtreecasts its unripefigs when shaken by a greatwind.
1424The sky was splitapartlike a scroll when it is rolled up, and 25everymountain and island were moved out of their places.
15Then26the kings of the earth and the greatmen and the ecommanders and the rich and the strong and everyslave and freemanhidthemselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains ;
and they 27said to the mountains and to the rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the fpresence of Him 28who sits on the throne, and from the 29wrath of the Lamb ;
for 30the greatday of their wrath has come, and 31who is able to stand ?"
