Ezekiel 28:5 Meaning and Commentary

Ezekiel 28:5

By thy great wisdom and by thy traffic
Or, "by thy great wisdom in thy traffic" F9; through great skill in trade and commerce: hast thou increased thy riches;
to a very great degree, a prodigious bulk; so antichrist has done, especially through trafficking with the souls of men, which is one part of his merchandise, as it was of Tyre, ( Revelation 18:13 ) ( Ezekiel 27:13 ) : and thine heart is lifted up because of thy riches;
which are apt to puff up and make men highminded, and swell them with a vain opinion of themselves, and to make haughty, insolent, and scornful, in their behaviour to others; thus elated with worldly grandeur and riches, the whore of Rome is represented as proud, vain, and haughty, ( Revelation 18:7 ) .

Ezekiel 28:5 In-Context

3 Are you wiser than Daniel? Isn't even one secret hidden from you?
4 You are wise and understanding. So you have become very wealthy. You have piled up gold and silver among your treasures.
5 You have used your great skill in trading to increase your wealth. You are very rich. So your heart has become proud." ' "
6 The LORD and King says, "You think you are wise. In fact, you claim to be as wise as a god.
7 So I am going to bring strangers against you. They will not show you any pity at all. They will use their swords against your beauty and wisdom. They will strike down your shining glory.
