AndPeteranswered unto her,Tellmewhether ye sold the land for so much?And she said, Yea, for so much.

ThenPetersaiduntoher,How is it thatye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord?behold, the feet of them which have buriedthyhusband are at the door,and shall carrytheeout.

Then fell she downstraightwayathisfeet,and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and foundherdead,and, carrying her forth, buried her byherhusband.

Andgreatfearcameuponall the church,andupon as many asheard these things.

Andby the hands of the apostlesweremanysignsandwonderswroughtamong the people;* (and they wereall with one accordinSolomon'sporch.

And of the restdurst no man join himself to them:but the peoplemagnifiedthem.

Andbelieverswere the moreadded to the Lord,multitudesboth of menand women.)

Insomuch that they brought forth the sickinto[a] the streets,andlaid them onbedsandcouches,that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadowsome of them.

Therecamealso a multitude out of the cities round aboutuntoJerusalem,bringingsick folks, and them which were vexedwithuncleanspirits: and they were healed every one.

Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were withhim,* (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation,[b]

Andlaidtheirhandson the apostles,andputthemin the commonprison.

But the angel of the Lordbynightopened the prisondoors,andbroughtthemforth, and said,

Go, standandspeakin the temple to the peopleall the words of thislife.

And when they heard that, they enteredinto the temple early in the morning*, andtaught. But the high priestcame, and they that were withhim, and called the counciltogether, andall the senate of the children of Israel,andsentto the prison to havethembrought.

But when the officerscame, and foundthemnotin the prison, they returned, andtold,

Saying*, The prisontruly found weshutwithallsafety,and the keepersstandingwithoutbefore the doors:but when we had opened, we found no manwithin.
24
Nowwhenthe high priestand the captain of the templeand the chief priestsheardthesethings, they doubtedofthemwhereunto*this would grow.
25
Then cameoneandtoldthem,saying*, Behold, the menwhom ye putinprisonarestandingin the temple,andteaching the people.

Thenwent the captainwith the officers, and broughtthemwithout*violence:for they feared the people,lest they should have been stoned.
27
And when they had broughtthem, they set them before the council:and the high priestaskedthem,

Saying, Didnot we straitlycommandyou that ye shouldnotteachinthisname?and,behold, ye have filledJerusalem with yourdoctrine,andintend to bringthisman'sblooduponus.

ThenPeterand the other apostlesanswered and said, We ought to obeyGodratherthanmen.

The God of ourfathers raised upJesus,whomyeslew and hangedon a tree.

Him hath Godexalted with his right hand to be a Princeand a Saviour, for to giverepentance to Israel,andforgiveness of sins.

Andwearehiswitnesses of thesethings;and so is also the HolyGhost,whomGod hath given to them that obeyhim.

When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slaythem.

Then stood there uponein the council, a Pharisee,namedGamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostlesfortha little space;

Andsaiduntothem, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselveswhat ye intend to do as touchingthesemen.

Forbeforethesedays rose upTheudas,boastinghimself to besomebody; to whom a number of men,about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; andall, as many asobeyed[c]him, were scattered, andbroughttonought.

After this man rose upJudas of Galileein the days of the taxing,and drew awaymuchpeopleafterhim: he alsoperished; andall, even as many asobeyed[d]him, were dispersed.

Andnow I say unto you,Refrainfromthesemen,andletthemalone: forifthiscounselorthisworkbeofmen, it will come to nought:

Butif it beofGod, ye cannot*overthrowit; lest haply ye be foundeven to fight against God.
40
And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they shouldnotspeakin the name of Jesus,andletthemgo.

And they departed*from the presence of the council,rejoicingthat they were counted worthy to suffer shameforhisname.

Anddaily*in the temple,and in everyhouse, they ceasednot to teachandpreachJesusChrist.
