11Now2the Passover and Unleavened Bread were twodaysaway; and the chiefpriests and the scribes3were seekinghow to seize Him by stealth and kill Him;
2
for they were saying, "Not during the festival, otherwise there might be a riot of the people."
3
4While He was in 5Bethany at the home of Simon the leper, and reclining at the table, there came a woman with an alabastervial of very6costlyperfume of purenard; and she broke the vial and poured it over His head.
4
But some were indignantly remarking to oneanother, "Why* has thisperfumebeenwasted?
5
"For thisperfumemight have been sold for overthreehundreddenarii, and the money given to the poor." And they were scolding her.
6
But Jesussaid, "Let her alone; why do you bother* her? She has done a gooddeed to Me.
7
"For you alwayshave7the poor with you, and whenever you wish you candogood to them; but you do not alwayshave Me.
8
"She has donewhat she could; 8she has anointed My bodybeforehand for the burial.
9
"Truly I say to you, 9wherever* the gospel is preached in the wholeworld, whatthiswoman has done will also be spoken of in memory of her."

13
And He senttwo of His disciples and said to them, "Go into the city, and a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him;
14
and wherever* he enters, say to the owner of the house, 'The Teachersays, "Where is My 15guestroom in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?"'
15
"And he himself will show you a largeupperroomfurnished and ready; prepare for us there."
16
The discipleswent out and came to the city, and found it just as He had told them; and they prepared the Passover.
18
As they were reclining at the table and eating, Jesussaid, "Truly I say to you that one of you will betray Me-one who is eating with Me."
19
They began to be grieved and to say to Him one by one, "Surely not I?"
20
And He said to them, "It is one of the twelve, one who dips with Me in the bowl.
21
"For the Son of Man is to gojust as it is written of Him; but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that manif he had not been born."
