11At that time the disciplescame to Jesus and said, "2Whothen is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?"
2
And He called a child to Himself and set him before* them,
3
and said, "Truly I say to you, unless* you are converted and 3becomelikechildren, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.
4
"Whoeverthenhumbleshimself as thischild, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
5
"And whoever*receivesonesuchchild in My namereceives Me;
6
but 4whoever*5causesone of theselittleones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavymillstonehungaround his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.
Stumbling Blocks
7"Woe to the worldbecause of its stumblingblocks! For 6it is inevitable that stumblingblockscome; but woe to that manthroughwhom the stumblingblockcomes!
8
"7If your handor your footcauses you to stumble, cut it off and throw it from you; it is better for you to enterlifecrippledorlame, than to havetwohandsortwofeet and be cast into the eternalfire.
9
"8If your eyecauses you to stumble, pluck it out and throw it from you. It is better for you to enterlife with oneeye, than to havetwoeyes and be cast into the 9fieryhell.
10
"See that you do not despiseone of theselittleones, for I say to you that 10their angels in heavencontinually*see the face of My Father who is in heaven.
11
[ "11For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost.]
Ninety-nine Plus One
12"What do you think? 12Ifanymanhas a hundredsheep, and one of them has goneastray, does he not leave the ninety-nine* on the mountains and go and search for the one that is straying?
13
"If it turns out that he finds it, truly I say to you, he rejoicesover it morethanover the ninety-nine* which have not goneastray.
14
"So it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of theselittleonesperish.
Discipline and Prayer
15"13If your brothersins, go and show him his fault in private; if he listens to you, you have won your brother.
16
"But if he does not listen to you, takeoneortwomore with you, so that 14BY THE MOUTH OF TWOORTHREEWITNESSESEVERYFACT MAY BE CONFIRMED.
17
"If he refuses to listen to them, 15tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listeneven to the church, 16let him be to you as a Gentile and a taxcollector.
18
"Truly I say to you, 17whatever* you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven; and whatever* you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven.
19
"Again I say to you, that iftwo of you agree on earthaboutanything* that they may ask, 18it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven.
20
"For wheretwoorthree have gatheredtogether in My name, 19I amthere in their midst."
Forgiveness
21ThenPetercame and said to Him, "Lord, 20howoften shall my brothersinagainst me and I forgive him? Up to 21seventimes?"
22
Jesussaid to him, "I do not say to you, up to seventimes, but up to 22seventytimesseven.
23
"For thisreason23the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a kingwhowished to 24settleaccounts with his slaves.
24
"When he had begun to settle them, one who owed him tenthousandtalents was brought to him.
25
"But since he 25did not have the means to repay, his lordcommanded him 26to be sold, along with his wife and children and all that he had, and repayment to be made.
26
"So the slavefell to the ground and 27prostratedhimselfbefore him, saying, 'Havepatience with me and I will repay you everything.'
27
"And the lord of that slavefeltcompassion and released him and 28forgave him the debt.
28
"But that slavewent out and foundone of his fellowslaveswhoowed him a hundreddenarii; and he seized him and began to choke him, saying, 'Paybackwhat you owe.'
29
"So his fellowslavefell to the ground and began to plead with him, saying, 'Havepatience with me and I will repay you.'
30
"But he was unwilling* and went and threw him in prisonuntil he should paybackwhat was owed.
31
"So when his fellowslavessawwhat had happened, they were deeplygrieved and came and reported to their lordall that had happened.
32
"Thensummoning him, his lordsaid to him, 'You wickedslave, I forgave you all that debtbecause you pleaded with me.
33
'29Should you not also have hadmercy on your fellowslave, in the sameway that I hadmercy on you?'
34
"And his lord, moved with anger, handed him over to the torturersuntil he should repayall that was owed him.
