ThenPaulstoodin the midst of Mars' hill,[a] and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceivethatin all thingsye are too superstitious.

For as I passed by, andbeheldyourdevotions*,[b] I found an altar with this*inscription, TO THE UNKNOWNGOD.Whomtherefore ye ignorantlyworship, himdeclareI unto you.

God that made the worldand all thingstherein*, seeing that heisLord of heavenandearth,dwellethnotintemples made with hands;

Neither is worshippedwithmen'shands, as though he needed any thing, seeing hegiveth to alllife,andbreath,and all things;

And hath madeofonebloodallnations of men for to dwellonall the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of theirhabitation;

That they should seek the Lord,ifhaply they might feel after him,and find him, though he benotfarfromeveryone of us:

Forinhim we live, andmove, and have our being; ascertainalso of yourownpoets have said, For we arealsohisoffspring.

Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we oughtnot to think that the Godheadislike unto gold,orsilver,orstone,graven by artandman'sdevice.
