16So he then1handed Him over to them to be crucified.
17
2They tookJesus, therefore, and He went out, 3bearing His owncross, to the place called4the Place of a Skull, which is called5in Hebrew, Golgotha.
18
There they crucified Him, and with Him 6twoothermen, one on eitherside, and Jesus in between.
19
Pilatealsowrote an inscription and put it on the cross. It was written, "7JESUS THE NAZARENE, 8THE KING OF THE JEWS."
20
Thereforemany of the Jewsreadthisinscription, for the placewhereJesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written9in Hebrew, Latin and in Greek.
21
So the chiefpriests of the Jews were saying to Pilate, "Do not write, '10The King of the Jews '; but that He said, 'I am11King of the Jews.' "
22
Pilateanswered, "12What I have written I have written."
23
Then13the soldiers, when they had crucifiedJesus, took His outergarments and made14fourparts, a part to everysoldier and also the tunic; now the tunic was seamless, woven in onepiece.
24
So they said to oneanother, "15Let us not tear it, but castlots for it, to decide whose it shall be"; 16this was to fulfill the Scripture: "THEY 17DIVIDED MY OUTERGARMENTSAMONG THEM, AND FOR MY CLOTHING THEY CASTLOTS."
25
Therefore the soldiersdidthesethings. 18But standing by the cross of Jesus were 19His mother, and His mother'ssister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and 20MaryMagdalene.
26
When Jesusthensaw His mother, and 21the disciplewhom He lovedstandingnearby, He said to His mother, "22Woman, behold, your son!"
27
Then He said to the disciple, "Behold, your mother!" From that hour the discipletook her into 23his own household.
28
Afterthis, Jesus, 24knowing that allthings had already been accomplished, 25to fulfill the Scripture, said, "26I amthirsty."
29
A jarfull of sourwine was standing there; so27they put a spongefull of the sourwine upon a branch of hyssop and brought it up to His mouth.
30
ThereforewhenJesus had received the sourwine, He said, "28It is finished!" And He bowed His head and 29gave up His spirit.
