Jueces 20:18-28

18 Antes de la batalla, los israelitas fueron a Betel y le preguntaron a Dios:
—¿Cuál de las tribus debe ser la primera en atacar a la gente de Benjamín?
El Señor
contestó:
—Judá debe ir primero.

19 Entonces los israelitas salieron temprano a la mañana siguiente y acamparon cerca de Guibeá.

20 Después avanzaron hacia Guibeá para atacar a los hombres de Benjamín.

21 Pero los guerreros de Benjamín, que estaban defendiendo la ciudad, salieron y mataron ese día a veintidós mil israelitas en el campo de batalla.

22 Sin embargo, los israelitas se animaron unos a otros y otra vez tomaron sus posiciones en el mismo lugar donde habían luchado el día anterior.

23 Pues habían subido a Betel y habían llorado en presencia del Señor
hasta la noche. Le habían preguntado al Señor
:
—¿Debemos salir nuevamente a pelear contra nuestros parientes de Benjamín?
Y el Señor
había dicho:
—Salgan a pelear contra ellos.

24 Así que, al día siguiente, volvieron a pelear contra los hombres de Benjamín,

25 pero los hombres de Benjamín mataron a otros dieciocho mil israelitas, todos ellos expertos en el uso de la espada.

26 Entonces todos los israelitas subieron a Betel y lloraron en presencia del Señor
, y ayunaron hasta la noche. También le llevaron al Señor
ofrendas quemadas y ofrendas de paz.

27 Los israelitas fueron a buscar dirección del Señor
. (En esos días el arca del pacto de Dios estaba en Betel,

28 y el sacerdote era Finees, hijo de Eleazar y nieto de Aarón). Los israelitas le preguntaron al Señor
:
—¿Debemos volver a pelear contra nuestros parientes de Benjamín o debemos detenernos?
El Señor
dijo:
—¡Vayan! Mañana se los entregaré.

INTRODUCTION TO JUDGES 20

This chapter relates, how that there was an assembly of the children of Israel at Mizpeh, upon what had happened to the concubine of the Levite, where he appeared and related the whole affair to them, Jud 20:1-7 upon which they unanimously agreed to chastise the inhabitants of Gibeah for what they had done, Jud 20:8-11, and in order to do that sent to the tribe of Benjamin to deliver the guilty, but instead of that they took to their arms, and prepared for battle in defence of them, Jud 20:12-17 and two battles ensued on this, in which the Israelites, who were on the right side of the question, were worsted, Jud 20:18-25 but upon their seeking the Lord again, and their humiliation before him, they engaged a third time in battle, and got an entire victory over the Benjaminites, and destroyed them all excepting six hundred men, Jud 20:26-48.
