1 In thosedays, when there was again a largecrowd and they hadnothing* to eat, 1Jesus called His disciples and said to them,
2
"2I feelcompassion for the peoplebecause they have remained with Me nowthreedays and havenothing* to eat.
3
"If I send them awayhungry to their homes, they will faint on the way; and some of them havecome from a greatdistance."
4
And His disciplesanswered Him, "Where will anyone be able to find enough breadhere in this desolateplace to satisfythesepeople?"
5
And He was asking them, "Howmanyloaves do you have?" And they said, "Seven."
6
And He directed the people to sitdown on the ground; and taking the sevenloaves, He gavethanks and broke them, and started giving them to His disciples to serve to them, and they served them to the people.
7
They alsohad a fewsmallfish; and 3after He had blessed them, He orderedthese to be served as well.
8
And they ate and were satisfied; and they picked up sevenlarge4basketsfull of what was leftover of the brokenpieces.
9
Aboutfourthousand were there; and He sent them away.
10
And immediately He entered the boat with His disciples and came to the district of 5Dalmanutha.
11
6The Phariseescame out and began to argue with Him, 7seeking from Him a sign from heaven, to test Him.
12
8Sighingdeeply in His spirit, He said, "Why does thisgenerationseek for a sign? Truly I say to you, 9nosign will be given to thisgeneration."
13
Leaving them, He againembarked and wentaway to the otherside.
14
And they had forgotten to takebread, and did not havemorethanoneloaf in the boat with them.
15
And He was givingorders to them, saying, "10Watch out! Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of 11Herod."
16
They began to discuss with oneanother the fact that they hadnobread.
17
And Jesus, aware of this, said to them, "Why do you discuss the fact that you havenobread? 12Do you not yetseeorunderstand? Do you have a hardenedheart?
18
"13HAVINGEYES, DO YOU NOT SEE? AND HAVINGEARS, DO YOU NOT HEAR? And do you not remember,
19
when I broke14the fiveloaves for the fivethousand, howmany15basketsfull of brokenpieces you picked up?" They said to Him, "Twelve."
20
"When I broke 16the seven for the fourthousand, howmanylarge17basketsfull of brokenpieces did you pick up?" And they said to Him, "Seven."
21
And He was saying to them, "18Do you not yetunderstand?"
22
And they came to 19Bethsaida. And they brought a blindman to Jesus and implored Him to 20touch him.
23
Taking the blindman by the hand, He 21brought him out of the village; and after 22spitting on his eyes and 23laying His hands on him, He asked him, "Do you seeanything?"
24
And he looked up and said, "I seemen, for I see them liketrees, walkingaround."
25
Thenagain He laid His hands on his eyes; and he lookedintently and was restored, and began to seeeverythingclearly.
26
And He sent him to his home, saying, "Do not evenenter24the village."
