The cords of the gravea coiled around me; the snares of death1 confronted me.
In my distress2 I called to the LORD;3 I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice;4 my cry came5 before him, into his ears.
The earth trembled6 and quaked,7 and the foundations of the mountains shook;8 they trembled because he was angry.98
Smoke rose from his nostrils;10 consuming fire11 came from his mouth, burning coals12 blazed out of it.
He parted the heavens and came down;13 dark clouds14 were under his feet.
He mounted the cherubim15 and flew; he soared16 on the wings of the wind.1711
He made darkness his covering,18 his canopy19 around him-- the dark rain clouds of the sky.
Out of the brightness of his presence20 clouds advanced, with hailstones21 and bolts of lightning.2213
The LORD thundered23 from heaven; the voice of the Most High resounded.b14
He shot his arrows24 and scattered [the enemies], great bolts of lightning25 and routed them.2615
The valleys of the sea were exposed and the foundations27 of the earth laid bare at your rebuke,28 O LORD, at the blast of breath from your nostrils.29
