For his anger1 lasts only a moment,2 but his favor lasts a lifetime;3 weeping4 may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.5

When I felt secure, I said, "I will never be shaken."6

O LORD, when you favored me, you made my mountaina stand firm; but when you hid your face,7 I was dismayed.

To you, O LORD, I called; to the Lord I cried for mercy:

"What gain is there in my destruction,b in my going down into the pit?8 Will the dust praise you? Will it proclaim your faithfulness?9

Hear,10 O LORD, and be merciful to me;11 O LORD, be my help.12"

You turned my wailing13 into dancing;14 you removed my sackcloth15 and clothed me with joy,16

that my heart may sing to you and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give you thanks17 forever.18
