1
Have mercy1 on me, O God, according to your unfailing love;2 according to your great compassion3 blot out4 my transgressions.52
Wash away6 all my iniquity and cleanse7 me from my sin.
3
For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.84
Against you, you only, have I sinned9 and done what is evil in your sight,10 so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge.115
Surely I was sinful12 at birth,13 sinful from the time my mother conceived me.
6
Surely you desire truth in the inner partsa; you teachb me wisdom14 in the inmost place.157
Cleanse16 me with hyssop,17 and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.188
Let me hear joy and gladness;19 let the bones20 you have crushed rejoice.
9
Hide your face from my sins21 and blot out22 all my iniquity.
10
Create in me a pure heart,23 O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.2411
Do not cast me25 from your presence26 or take your Holy Spirit27 from me.
12
Restore to me the joy of your salvation28 and grant me a willing spirit,29 to sustain me.3013
Then I will teach transgressors your ways,31 and sinners32 will turn back to you.3314
Save me34 from bloodguilt,35 O God, the God who saves me,36 and my tongue will sing of your righteousness.3715
O Lord, open my lips,38 and my mouth will declare your praise.
16
You do not delight in sacrifice,39 or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.
17
The sacrifices40 of God arec a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart,41 O God, you will not despise.
18
In your good pleasure make Zion42 prosper; build up the walls of Jerusalem.4319
Then there will be righteous sacrifices,44 whole burnt offerings45 to delight you; then bulls46 will be offered on your altar.
