But when the kindness1 and love of God our Savior2 appeared,3
he saved us,4 not because of righteous things we had done,5 but because of his mercy.6 He saved us through the washing7 of rebirth and renewal8 by the Holy Spirit,
whom he poured out on us9 generously through Jesus Christ our Savior,
so that, having been justified by his grace,10 we might become heirs11 having the hope12 of eternal life.13
This is a trustworthy saying.14 And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good.15 These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.
But avoid16 foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels17 about the law,18 because these are unprofitable and useless.19
Warn a divisive person once, and then warn him a second time. After that, have nothing to do with him.20
