And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven,1 having the key2 to the Abyss3 and holding in his hand a great chain.
He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan,4 and bound him for a thousand years.53
He threw him into the Abyss,6 and locked and sealed7 it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations8 anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time.
I saw thrones9 on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge.10 And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded11 because of their testimony about Jesus12 and because of the word of God.13 They had not worshiped the beast14 or his image and had not received his mark on their foreheads or their hands.15 They came to life and reigned16 with Christ a thousand years.
(The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection.176
Blessed18 and holy are those who have part in the first resurrection. The second death19 has no power over them, but they will be priests20 of God and of Christ and will reign with him21 for a thousand years.
When the thousand years are over,22 Satan will be released from his prison
and will go out to deceive the nations23 in the four corners of the earth24--Gog and Magog25--and to gather them for battle.26 In number they are like the sand on the seashore.279
They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded28 the camp of God's people, the city he loves.29 But fire came down from heaven30 and devoured them.
And the devil, who deceived them,31 was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur,32 where the beast33 and the false prophet34 had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.35
Then I saw a great white throne36 and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence,37 and there was no place for them.
And I saw the dead, great and small,38 standing before the throne, and books were opened.39 Another book was opened, which is the book of life.40 The dead were judged41 according to what they had done42 as recorded in the books.
The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades43 gave up the dead44 that were in them, and everyone was judged according to what they had done.4514
Then death46 and Hades47 were thrown into the lake of fire.48 The lake of fire is the second death.4915
All whose names were not found written in the book of life50 were thrown into the lake of fire.
