Luke 22:48

48 "Judas," said Jesus, "are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?"

Luke 22:48 Meaning and Commentary

Luke 22:48

But Jesus said unto him, Judas
Calling him by his name, that he might know he knew him, and to aggravate his sin; what, Judas, my apostle, my friend, my familiar friend, in whom I trusted, or with whom I trusted all my worldly affairs, betrayest thou the son of man with a kiss!
who assumed human nature for the good of mankind, who is the Messiah spoken of by the prophets, under the character of the son of man, and who is holy, harmless, and never did any mortal man any hurt or injury; and what, betray such an one into the hands of his most implacable adversaries, and in such an hypocritical and deceitful way! all which Christ said, to show he was no stranger to what he was about to do.

Luke 22:48 In-Context

46 "Why are you sleeping?" He said; "stand up; and pray that you may not come into temptation."
47 While He was still speaking there came a crowd with Judas, already mentioned as one of the Twelve, at their head. He went up to Jesus to kiss Him.
48 "Judas," said Jesus, "are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?"
49 Those who were about Him, seeing what was likely to happen, asked Him, "Master, shall we strike with the sword?"
50 And one of them struck a blow at the High Priest's servant and cut off his right ear.
