"I have cut off nations; their strongholds are demolished. I have left their streets deserted, with no one passing through. Their cities are destroyed;1 no one will be left--no one at all.
I said to the city, 'Surely you will fear me and accept correction!'2 Then her dwelling would not be cut off, nor all my punishments come upon her. But they were still eager to act corruptly3 in all they did.
Therefore wait4 for me," declares the LORD, "for the day I will stand up to testify.a I have decided to assemble5 the nations,6 to gather the kingdoms and to pour out my wrath7 on them-- all my fierce anger.8 The whole world will be consumed9 by the fire of my jealous anger.
"Then will I purify the lips of the peoples, that all of them may call10 on the name of the LORD11 and serve12 him shoulder to shoulder.
From beyond the rivers of Cushb13 my worshipers, my scattered people, will bring me offerings.1411
On that day you will not be put to shame15 for all the wrongs you have done to me,16 because I will remove from this city those who rejoice in their pride.17 Never again will you be haughty on my holy hill.1812
But I will leave within you the meek19 and humble, who trust20 in the name of the LORD.
The remnant21 of Israel will do no wrong;22 they will speak no lies,23 nor will deceit be found in their mouths.24 They will eat and lie down25 and no one will make them afraid.26"
Sing, O Daughter of Zion;27 shout aloud,28 O Israel! Be glad and rejoice29 with all your heart, O Daughter of Jerusalem!
The LORD has taken away your punishment, he has turned back your enemy. The LORD, the King of Israel, is with you;30 never again will you fear31 any harm.3216
On that day they will say to Jerusalem, "Do not fear, O Zion; do not let your hands hang limp.33
