I said to the city, 'Surely you will fear me and accept correction!'1 Then her dwelling would not be cut off, nor all my punishments come upon her. But they were still eager to act corruptly2 in all they did.
Therefore wait3 for me," declares the LORD, "for the day I will stand up to testify.a I have decided to assemble4 the nations,5 to gather the kingdoms and to pour out my wrath6 on them-- all my fierce anger.7 The whole world will be consumed8 by the fire of my jealous anger.
"Then will I purify the lips of the peoples, that all of them may call9 on the name of the LORD10 and serve11 him shoulder to shoulder.
From beyond the rivers of Cushb12 my worshipers, my scattered people, will bring me offerings.1311
On that day you will not be put to shame14 for all the wrongs you have done to me,15 because I will remove from this city those who rejoice in their pride.16 Never again will you be haughty on my holy hill.1712
But I will leave within you the meek18 and humble, who trust19 in the name of the LORD.
The remnant20 of Israel will do no wrong;21 they will speak no lies,22 nor will deceit be found in their mouths.23 They will eat and lie down24 and no one will make them afraid.25"
Sing, O Daughter of Zion;26 shout aloud,27 O Israel! Be glad and rejoice28 with all your heart, O Daughter of Jerusalem!
The LORD has taken away your punishment, he has turned back your enemy. The LORD, the King of Israel, is with you;29 never again will you fear30 any harm.3116
On that day they will say to Jerusalem, "Do not fear, O Zion; do not let your hands hang limp.3217
The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save.33 He will take great delight34 in you, he will quiet you with his love,35 he will rejoice over you with singing."36
