Matthew 23:32-39

32 ¹Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers.

33 You serpents, ²you brood of vipers, how are you to escape being sentenced to ³hell?

34 ⁴Therefore ⁵I send you ⁶prophets and wise men and ⁷scribes, ⁸some of whom you will kill and crucify, and ⁹some you will ¹⁰flog in your synagogues and ¹¹persecute from town to town,

35 so that on you may come all ¹²the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of innocent ¹³Abel to the blood of ¹⁴Zechariah the son of Barachiah,^[a] whom you murdered between ¹⁵the sanctuary and ¹⁶the altar.

36 Truly, I say to you, ¹⁷all these things will come upon this generation.#rl

Lament over Jerusalem

37 ¹⁸"O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that ¹⁹kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have ²⁰gathered ²¹your children together ²²as a hen gathers her brood ²³under her wings, and ²⁴you would not!

38 See, ²⁵your house is left to you desolate.

39 For I tell you, you will not see me again, until you say, ²⁶'Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.'"
