Now Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses'father-in-law, heard of all that God had done for Moses and for Israel His people, how the LORD had broughtIsrael out of Egypt.

Mosestold his father-in-lawall that the LORD had done to Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel'ssake*, all the hardship that had befallen them on the journey, and how the LORD had delivered them.

So Jethrosaid, "Blessed be the LORDwhodelivered you from the hand of the Egyptians and from the hand of Pharaoh, and whodelivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians.

Then Jethro, Moses'father-in-law, took a burntoffering and sacrifices for God, and Aaroncame with all the elders of Israel to eat a meal with Moses'father-in-lawbeforeGod.

Now when Moses'father-in-lawsawall that he was doing for the people, he said, "What is thisthing that you are doing for the people? Why do you alonesit as judge and all the peoplestandabout you from morninguntilevening?"

"Furthermore, you shall select out of all the peopleablemen who fearGod, men of truth, those who hatedishonestgain; and you shall place these over them as leaders of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties and of tens.

"Let them judge the people at alltimes; and let it be that everymajordispute they will bring to you, but everyminordispute they themselves will judge. So it will be easier for you, and they will bear the burden with you.
