And when he was come, the Jews which came downfromJerusalem stood round about, andlaidmany and grievouscomplaintsagainstPaul, which they couldnotprove.
8
While he answered for himself,Neither*against the law of the Jews, neitheragainst the temple, nor yetagainstCaesar, have I offended any thing at all.
9
ButFestus, willing to do the Jews a pleasure, answeredPaul, and said, Wilt thou go uptoJerusalem, and there be judgedof these thingsbeforeme?
10
ThensaidPaul, I stand*atCaesar's judgment seat, whereIought to be judged: to the Jews have I donenowrong, as*thou very wellknowest.
11
ForifI be an offender, or have committed any thingworthy of death, I refusenot to die: butif there benone of these things whereof theseaccuseme, no manmaydeliverme unto them. I appeal untoCaesar.
12
ThenFestus, when he had conferredwith the council, answered, Hast thou appealed untoCaesar?untoCaesar shalt thou go.
13
AndaftercertaindayskingAgrippaandBernicecameuntoCaesarea to saluteFestus.
14
Andwhen they had beentheremanydays,FestusdeclaredPaul'scause unto the king, saying, There is a certainmanleft in bondsbyFelix:
15
Aboutwhom, whenIwasatJerusalem, the chief priestsand the elders of the Jewsinformed me, desiring to have judgmentagainsthim.
16
Towhom I answered*, It isnot the manner of the Romans to deliveranymantodie, beforethat he which is accusedhave the accusers face to face**, and havelicence to answer for himselfconcerning the crime laid against him.
17
Therefore, when they were comehither, withoutanydelay on the morrow I saton the judgment seat, and commanded the man to be brought forth.
18
Againstwhom when the accusers stood up, they broughtnoneaccusation of such things asIsupposed:
19
Buthadcertainquestionsagainsthimof their ownsuperstition, andofoneJesus, which was dead, whomPaulaffirmed to be alive.
20
And because Idoubted[a]ofsuchmanner of questions, I asked him whether he wouldgotoJerusalem, and there be judgedof these matters.
21
But when Paul had appealed to be reserved*unto the hearing[b] of Augustus, I commandedhim to be kepttillI might sendhimtoCaesar.
22
ThenAgrippasaiduntoFestus, I wouldalsohear the manmyself. To morrow*, said he, thou shalt hearhim.
23
And on the morrow, whenAgrippa was come, andBernice, withgreatpomp, and was enteredinto the place of hearing, withthe chief captains, andprincipal*menof the city,atFestus'commandmentPaul was brought forth.
24
AndFestussaid, KingAgrippa, andallmenwhich are here present with us, ye see this man, aboutwhomall the multitude of the Jews have dealt with me,bothatJerusalem, and also here, crying that he oughtnot to live any longer.
25
But when Ifound that he had committednothingworthy of death, andthat he himself hath appealedtoAugustus, I have determined to sendhim.
26
Ofwhom I havenocertainthing to write unto my lord.Wherefore I have broughthimforthbeforeyou, andspeciallybeforethee, O kingAgrippa, that, after examinationhad, I might havesomewhat to write.
27
For it seemeth to meunreasonable to send a prisoner, and not withal to signify the crimes laid againsthim.
