11My littlechildren, I am 2writingthesethings to you so that you may not sin. And ifanyonesins, 3we have an [a]4Advocate with the Father, JesusChrist the righteous;
2
and He Himself is 5the [b]propitiation for our sins; and not for oursonly, but also6for those of the wholeworld.
3
7By this we know that we have come to 8know Him, if we 9keep His commandments.
4
The one who says, "10I have come to 11know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a 12liar, and 13the truth is not in him;
5
but whoever*14keeps His word, in him the 15love of God has truly been perfected. 16By this we know that we are in Him:
6
the one who says he 17abides in Him 18oughthimself to walk in the samemanner as He walked.
7
19Beloved, I am 20not writing a newcommandment to you, but an oldcommandmentwhich you have had21from the beginning; the oldcommandment is the wordwhich you have heard.
8
[c]On the otherhand, I am writing22a newcommandment to you, which is true in Him and in you, because23the darkness is passingaway and 24the trueLight is alreadyshining.
9
The one who says he is in the Light and yet 25hates his 26brother is in the darknessuntilnow.
10
27The one who loves his brotherabides in the Light and there is nocause for stumbling in him.
11
But the one who 28hates his brother is in the darkness and 29walks in the darkness, and does not knowwhere he is goingbecause the darkness has 30blinded his eyes.
