14 ¿Tras quién ha salido el rey de Israel? ¿A quién persigues? ¿A un perro muerto? ¿A una pulga?

15 El SEÑOR, pues, será juez, y él juzgará entre mí y ti. El vea, y pleitee mi pleito, y me defienda de tu mano.

16 Y aconteció que, cuando David acabó de decir estas palabras a Saúl, Saúl dijo: ¿No es esta la voz tuya, hijo mío David? Y alzando Saúl su voz lloró.

17 Y dijo a David: Más justo eres tú que yo, que me has pagado con bien, habiéndote yo pagado con mal.

18 Tú has mostrado hoy que has hecho conmigo bien; pues no me has dado muerte, habiéndome el SEÑOR puesto en tus manos.

19 Porque ¿quién hallará a su enemigo, y lo dejará ir sano y salvo? El SEÑOR te pague con bien por lo que en este día has hecho conmigo.

20 Y ahora, como yo entiendo que tú has de reinar, y que el reino de Israel ha de ser en tu mano firme y estable,

21 júrame, pues, ahora por el SEÑOR, que no talarás mi simiente después de mí, ni raerás mi nombre de la casa de mi padre.

22 Entonces David juró a Saúl. Y se fue Saúl a su casa, y David y los suyos se subieron a su fuerte.

INTRODUCTION TO FIRST SAMUEL 24

Saul being returned from following the Philistines, renews his pursuit after David, 1Sa 24:1,2; and they meeting in a cave, where David had the opportunity of taking away the life of Saul, which his men pressed him to, yet only cut off the skirt of his robe, 1Sa 24:3-8; which, calling after him, he held up to him to convince him he had his life in his hands, but spared it, 1Sa 24:9,10; upon which he very pathetically reasons with him about the unreasonableness and unrighteousness of his pursuit after him, to take away his life, 1Sa 24:11-15; which so affected Saul, that he confessed he was more righteous than he, and owned that the kingdom would be his, and only desired him to swear to him not to cut off his offspring, which David did, and so they parted, 1Sa 24:16-22.
