When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slaythem.

Then stood there uponein the council, a Pharisee,namedGamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostlesfortha little space;

Andsaiduntothem, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselveswhat ye intend to do as touchingthesemen.

Forbeforethesedays rose upTheudas,boastinghimself to besomebody; to whom a number of men,about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; andall, as many asobeyed[a]him, were scattered, andbroughttonought.

After this man rose upJudas of Galileein the days of the taxing,and drew awaymuchpeopleafterhim: he alsoperished; andall, even as many asobeyed[b]him, were dispersed.

Andnow I say unto you,Refrainfromthesemen,andletthemalone: forifthiscounselorthisworkbeofmen, it will come to nought:

Butif it beofGod, ye cannot*overthrowit; lest haply ye be foundeven to fight against God.

And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they shouldnotspeakin the name of Jesus,andletthemgo.

And they departed*from the presence of the council,rejoicingthat they were counted worthy to suffer shameforhisname.
