Éxodo 8:21-31

21 Si te niegas, enviaré enjambres de moscas sobre ti, tus funcionarios, tu gente y todas las casas. Los hogares egipcios se llenarán de moscas, y el suelo quedará cubierto de ellas.

22 Pero esta vez haré una excepción con la región de Gosén, donde vive mi pueblo. Allí no habrá moscas. Entonces sabrás que yo soy el Señor
, y que estoy presente incluso en el corazón de tu tierra.

23 Haré una clara distinción entre
mi pueblo y tu pueblo. Esta señal milagrosa ocurrirá mañana’”».

24 Y el Señor
hizo tal como había dicho. Una densa nube de moscas llenó el palacio del faraón y las casas de sus funcionarios. Todo el territorio de Egipto entró en un estado de caos por causa de las moscas.

25 Entonces el faraón mandó llamar a Moisés y a Aarón y les dijo:
—¡De acuerdo! Vayan y ofrezcan sacrificios a su Dios, pero háganlo aquí, dentro del reino.

26 Pero Moisés respondió:
—Eso no estaría bien. Los egipcios detestan los sacrificios que ofrecemos al Señor
nuestro Dios. Si ofrecemos nuestros sacrificios a la vista de ellos, nos apedrearán.

27 Para ofrecer sacrificios al Señor
nuestro Dios, tenemos que salir al desierto, a una distancia de tres días, tal como él nos ordenó.

28 —Está bien, pueden ir —contestó el faraón—. Los dejaré ir al desierto para ofrecer sacrificios al Señor
su Dios, pero no se alejen demasiado. Apúrense y oren por mí.

29 —En cuanto salga de tu presencia —le respondió Moisés—, oraré al Señor
, y mañana mismo la nube de moscas desaparecerá de ti, de tus funcionarios y de toda tu gente. Pero te advierto, faraón, no vuelvas a mentirnos o a engañarnos y luego negarte a dejar salir al pueblo para que ofrezca sacrificios al Señor
.

30 Entonces Moisés salió del palacio del faraón y rogó al Señor
que quitara todas las moscas.

31 El Señor
hizo lo que Moisés pidió, y los enjambres de moscas desaparecieron del faraón, de los funcionarios y de su gente. No quedó ni una sola mosca.

INTRODUCTION TO EXODUS 8

In this chapter Pharaoh is threatened with the plague of frogs, in case he refused to let Israel go, which accordingly was brought upon him, Ex 8:1-6 and though the magicians did something similar to it, yet these were so troublesome to Pharaoh, that he promised to let the people go, and sacrifice to God, if they removed; and a time being fixed for the removal of them, it was accordingly done at the entreaty of Moses and Aaron, Ex 8:7-14 but there being a respite, Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and the plague of lice is ordered, and which was executed; and though this the magicians essayed to do, and could not, but owned it to be the finger of God, yet Pharaoh's heart was hardened, Ex 8:15-19 wherefore he is threatened with a swarm of flies, which should not infest Goshen, only the places where the Egyptians dwelt, and it was so, Ex 8:20-24 upon which Pharaoh called for Moses, and declared himself willing the people would sacrifice in the land; but this not being satisfactory, he agreed they should go into the wilderness, but not so far; and on the account of the entreaty of Moses, the plague was removed; but still Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he would not let the people go, Ex 8:25-32.
