In the Lord's Prayer, What Does Jesus Mean by "Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread?"

It is an acknowledgment that every good gift in our life comes from God - that he is ultimately the provider. So even those who find themselves to be self-reliant and very resourceful, our temptation is to look to ourselves and say, "well I don't really need God right now, I'm paying the bills, I'm getting my work done." But this encouragement to pray forces us to consider again that everything we have that sustains us comes from the hand of our merciful God.
