This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Sona1 into the world that we might live through him.210
This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us3 and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice forb our sins.411
Dear friends,5 since God so loved us,6 we also ought to love one another.712
No one has ever seen God;8 but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.913
We know10 that we live in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit.1114

If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God,14 God lives in him and he in God.1516
And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love.16 Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.1717
In this way, love is made complete18 among us so that we will have confidence19 on the day of judgment,20 because in this world we are like him.
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear,21 because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
We love because he first loved us.22
