Now, brothers, about times and dates1 we do not need to write to you,22
for you know very well that the day of the Lord3 will come like a thief in the night.43
While people are saying, "Peace and safety,"5 destruction will come on them suddenly,6 as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.74
But you, brothers, are not in darkness8 so that this day should surprise you like a thief.95
You are all sons of the light10 and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness.
So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep,11 but let us be alert12 and self-controlled.137
For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night.148
But since we belong to the day,15 let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate,16 and the hope of salvation17 as a helmet.18
