Then Amaziah said to Amos, "Get out, you seer!1 Go back to the land of Judah. Earn your bread there and do your prophesying there.213
Don't prophesy anymore at Bethel,3 because this is the king's sanctuary and the temple4 of the kingdom.5"
Amos answered Amaziah, "I was neither a prophet6 nor a prophet's son, but I was a shepherd, and I also took care of sycamore-fig trees.715
But the LORD took me from tending the flock8 and said to me, 'Go,9 prophesy10 to my people Israel.'1116
Now then, hear12 the word of the LORD. You say, " 'Do not prophesy against13 Israel, and stop preaching against the house of Isaac.'
