"Then the 1king of the South will growstrong, aalong with one of his princesbwho will gainascendancyover him and obtaindominion ; his domain will be a greatdominion indeed.
6"After some years they will form an alliance, and the daughter of the king of the South will come to the 2king of the North to carry out ca peacefularrangement. But she will not retain her dposition of power, nor will he remain with his epower, but she will be given up, along with those who brought her in and the one who sired her as well as he who supported her in those times.
"But one of the fdescendants of her line will arise in his place, and he will comeagainst their army and enter the 3fortress of the king of the North, and he will deal with them and display great strength.
8"Also their 4gods with their gmetalimages and their preciousvessels of silver and gold he will take into captivity to Egypt, and he on his part will hrefrain from attacking the king of the North for some years.
"Then ithe latter will enter the realm of the king of the South, but will return to his own land.
"His sons will jmobilize and assemble a multitude of greatforces ; and one of them will keep on coming and 5overflow and passthrough, that he may kagainwagewar up to his very fortress.
"The 6king of the South will be enraged and goforth and fightlwith the king of the North. Then the latter will raise a greatmultitude, but that multitude will be given into mthe hand of the former.
"When the multitude is carried away, his heart will be lifted up, and he will cause tens of thousands to fall ; yet he will not prevail.
"For the king of the North will againraise a greatermultitudethan the former, and nafter an 7interval of someyears he will opress on with a greatarmy and muchequipment.
"Now in thosetimesmany will rise up against the king of the South ; the violentones among your people will also lift themselves up in order to fulfill the vision, but they will pfalldown.
"Then the king of the North will come, cast up a 8siegeramp and capture a well-fortifiedcity ; and the forces of the South will not stand their ground, not even qtheir choicesttroops, for there will be nostrength to make a stand.
"But he who comesagainst him will 9do as he pleases, and 10noone will be able to withstand him; he will also stay for a time in the r11BeautifulLand, with destruction in his hand.
"He will 12set his face to come with the power of his wholekingdom, sbringing with him ta proposal of peace which he will put into effect ; he will also give him the daughter of women to ruin it. But she will not take a stand for him or be uon his side.
"Then he will turn his face to the 13coastlands and capturemany. But a commander will put a stop to his scorn against him; moreover, he will 14repay him for his scorn.
"So he will turn his face toward the fortresses of his own land, but he will 15stumble and fall and be 16foundno more.
"Then in his place one will arise who will 17send an voppressorthrough the wJewel of his kingdom ; yet within a fewdays he will be shattered, though not in angernor in battle.
"In his place a despicable person will arise, on whom the honor of kingship has not been conferred, but he will come in a time of tranquility and 18seize the kingdom by intrigue.
"The overflowing19forces will be floodedawaybefore him and shattered, and also the prince of the covenant.
23"After an alliance is made with him he will practicedeception, and he will go up and gainpower with a small force of people.
"xIn a time of tranquility he will enter the 20richest parts of the yrealm, and he will accomplishwhat his fathersneverdid, nor his zancestors ; he will distributeplunder, booty and possessions among them, and he will devise his schemesagainststrongholds, but only for a time.
"He will stir up his strength and aacourageagainst the 21king of the South with a largearmy ; so the king of the South will mobilize an extremelylarge and mightyarmy for war ; but he will not stand, for schemes will be devisedagainst him.
"Those who eat his choicefood will bbdestroy him, and his army will cc22overflow, but many will falldownslain.
"As for bothkings, their hearts will be intent on 23evil, and they will 24speaklies to each other at the sametable ; but it will not succeed, for the 25end is still to come at the appointedtime.
"Then he will return to his land with muchddplunder ; but his heart will be set against the holycovenant, and he will takeaction and then return to his own land.
"At the appointedtime he will return and come into the South, but eethis lasttime it will not turn out the way it did before.
"For ships of ff26Kittim will come against him; therefore he will be disheartened and will return and becomeenraged at the holycovenant and takeaction ; so he will comeback and showregard for those who forsake the holycovenant.
31"Forces from him will arise, 27desecrate the sanctuaryfortress, and doaway with the regularsacrifice. And they will set up the 28abominationggof desolation.
"By 29smooth words he will hhturn to godlessness those who actwickedly toward the covenant, but the people who know their God will display30strength and takeaction.
"ii31Those who haveinsight among the people will giveunderstanding to the many ; yet they will 32fall by sword and by flame, by captivity and by plunder for many days.
"Now when they fall they will be granted a littlehelp, and many will 33join with them in 34hypocrisy.
35"Some of jjthose who haveinsight will fall, in order to 35refine, 36purge and make them kk37pureuntil the 38endtime ; because it is still to come at the appointedtime.
