Woe1 to you, O destroyer, you who have not been destroyed! Woe to you, O traitor, you who have not been betrayed! When you stop destroying, you will be destroyed;2 when you stop betraying, you will be betrayed.32
O LORD, be gracious4 to us; we long for you. Be our strength5 every morning, our salvation6 in time of distress.73
At the thunder of your voice,8 the peoples flee;9 when you rise up,10 the nations scatter.

Your plunder,11 O nations, is harvested12 as by young locusts;13 like a swarm of locusts men pounce on it.

The LORD is exalted,14 for he dwells on high;15 he will fill Zion with justice16 and righteousness.176
He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation18 and wisdom and knowledge; the fear19 of the LORD is the key to this treasure.a207
Look, their brave men21 cry aloud in the streets; the envoys22 of peace weep bitterly.

The highways are deserted, no travelers23 are on the roads.24 The treaty is broken,25 its witnessesb are despised, no one is respected.

The land mournsc26 and wastes away, Lebanon27 is ashamed and withers;28 Sharon29 is like the Arabah, and Bashan30 and Carmel31 drop their leaves.

"Now will I arise,32" says the LORD. "Now will I be exalted;33 now will I be lifted up.

You conceive34 chaff, you give birth35 to straw; your breath is a fire36 that consumes you.

The peoples will be burned as if to lime;37 like cut thornbushes38 they will be set ablaze.39"

You who are far away,40 hear41 what I have done; you who are near, acknowledge my power!

The sinners42 in Zion are terrified; trembling43 grips the godless: "Who of us can dwell with the consuming fire?44 Who of us can dwell with everlasting burning?"
