Edom's streams will be turned into pitch, her dust into burning sulfur;1 her land will become blazing pitch!
It will not be quenched2 night and day; its smoke will rise forever.3 From generation to generation4 it will lie desolate;5 no one will ever pass through it again.
The desert owla6 and screech owlb will possess it; the great owlc and the raven7 will nest there. God will stretch out over Edom8 the measuring line of chaos9 and the plumb line10 of desolation.
Her nobles will have nothing there to be called a kingdom, all her princes11 will vanish12 away.
Thorns13 will overrun her citadels, nettles and brambles her strongholds.14 She will become a haunt for jackals,15 a home for owls.1614
Desert creatures17 will meet with hyenas,18 and wild goats will bleat to each other; there the night creatures19 will also repose and find for themselves places of rest.
The owl will nest there and lay eggs, she will hatch them, and care for her young under the shadow of her wings;20 there also the falcons21 will gather, each with its mate.
Look in the scroll22 of the LORD and read: None of these will be missing,23 not one will lack her mate. For it is his mouth24 that has given the order,25 and his Spirit will gather them together.
He allots their portions;26 his hand distributes them by measure. They will possess it forever and dwell there from generation to generation.27
