View In My Bible
4 Do not trust1 in deceptive2 words and say, "This is the temple of the LORD, the temple of the LORD, the temple of the LORD!" 5 If you really change3 your ways and your actions and deal with each other justly,4 6 if you do not oppress5 the alien, the fatherless or the widow and do not shed innocent blood6 in this place, and if you do not follow other gods7 to your own harm, 7 then I will let you live in this place, in the land8 I gave your forefathers9 for ever and ever. 8 But look, you are trusting10 in deceptive11 words that are worthless. 9 " 'Will you steal12 and murder,13 commit adultery14 and perjury,a15 burn incense to Baal1617 and follow other gods18 you have not known, 10 and then come and stand19 before me in this house,20 which bears my Name, and say, "We are safe"--safe to do all these detestable things?21 11 Has this house,22 which bears my Name, become a den of robbers23 to you? But I have been watching!24 declares the LORD. 12 " 'Go now to the place in Shiloh25 where I first made a dwelling26 for my Name,27 and see what I did28 to it because of the wickedness of my people Israel. 13 While you were doing all these things, declares the LORD, I spoke29 to you again and again,30 but you did not listen;31 I called32 you, but you did not answer.33 14 Therefore, what I did to Shiloh34 I will now do to the house that bears my Name,35 the temple36 you trust in, the place I gave to you and your fathers. 15 I will thrust you from my presence,37 just as I did all your brothers, the people of Ephraim.'38
