Then he uttered his oracle: "The oracle of Balaam son of Beor, the oracle of one whose eye sees clearly,
the oracle of one who hears the words1 of God, who has knowledge from the Most High,2 who sees a vision from the Almighty, who falls prostrate, and whose eyes are opened:
"I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near.3 A star will come out of Jacob;4 a scepter will rise out of Israel.5 He will crush the foreheads of Moab,6 the skullsa7 ofb all the sons of Sheth.c18
Edom8 will be conquered; Seir,9 his enemy, will be conquered,10 but Israel11 will grow strong.
A ruler will come out of Jacob12 and destroy the survivors of the city."
Then Balaam saw Amalek13 and uttered his oracle: "Amalek was first among the nations, but he will come to ruin at last."1421
Then he saw the Kenites15 and uttered his oracle: "Your dwelling place is secure,16 your nest is set in a rock;
yet you Kenites will be destroyed when Asshur17 takes you captive."
Then he uttered his oracle: "Ah, who can live when God does this?d24
Ships will come from the shores of Kittim;18 they will subdue Asshur19 and Eber,20 but they too will come to ruin.21"
