Lièwángjìxià 3

1 Yóudà wáng Yuēshāfǎ shí bá nián , yà hā de érzi Yuēlán zaì sǎ Mǎlìyà dēng jī zuò le Yǐsèliè wáng shí èr nián .

2 Tā xíng Yēhéhuá yǎn zhōng kàn wéi è de shì , dàn bù zhì xiàng tā fùmǔ suǒ xíng de , yīnwei chúdiào tā fù suǒ zào bā lì de zhù xiàng .

3 Ránér , tā tiē jìn ní bā de érzi Yéluóbōān shǐ Yǐsèliè rén xiàn zaì zuì lǐ de nà zuì , zǒng bù líkāi .

4 Móyē wáng Mǐshā mù yǎng xǔduō yáng , mĕi nián jiāng shí wàn yánggāo de maó hé shí wàn gōng miányáng de maó gĕi Yǐsèliè wáng jìn gòng .

5 Yà hā sǐ hòu , Móyē wáng beìpàn Yǐsèliè wáng .

6 Nàshí Yuēlán wáng chū sǎ Mǎlìyà , shǔ diǎn Yǐsèliè zhòngrén .

7 Qián xíng de shíhou , chāi rén qù jiàn Yóudà wáng Yuēshāfǎ , shuō , Móyē wáng beìpàn wǒ , nǐ kĕn tóng wǒ qù gōngdǎ Móyē ma . tā shuō , wǒ kĕn shàng qù , nǐ wǒ bù fèn bǐcǐ , wǒde mín yǔ nǐde mín yíyàng , wǒde mǎ yǔ nǐde mǎ yíyàng .

8 Yuēlán shuō , wǒmen cóng nǎ tiaó lù shàng qù ne . huídá shuō , cóng Yǐdōng kuàngyĕ de lù shàng qù .

9 Yúshì , Yǐsèliè wáng hé Yóudà wáng , bìng Yǐdōng wáng , dōu yītóng qù rǎo xíng qī rì de lùchéng . jūnduì hé suǒ daì de shēngchù méiyǒu shuǐ hē .

10 Yǐsèliè wáng shuō , āi zāi . Yēhéhuá zhāo jù wǒmen zhè sān wáng , nǎi yào jiāo zaì Móyē rén de shǒu lǐ .

11 Yuēshāfǎ shuō , zhèlǐ bú shì yǒu Yēhéhuá de xiānzhī ma . wǒmen kĕyǐ tuō tā qiú wèn Yēhéhuá . Yǐsèliè wáng de yī gè chén zǐ huídá shuō , zhèlǐ yǒu shā fǎ de érzi Yǐlìshā , jiù shì cóng qián fúshì Yǐlìyà de ( yuánwén zuò dǎo shuǐ zaì Yǐlìyà shǒu shàng de ) .

12 Yuēshāfǎ shuō , tā bì yǒu Yēhéhuá de huà . yúshì Yǐsèliè wáng hé Yuēshāfǎ , bìng Yǐdōng wáng dōu xià qù jiàn tā .

13 Yǐlìshā duì Yǐsèliè wáng shuō , wǒ yǔ nǐ hé gān . qù wèn nǐ fùqin de xiānzhī hé nǐ mǔqin de xiānzhī ba . Yǐsèliè wáng duì tā shuō , búyào zhèyàng shuō , Yēhéhuá zhāo jù wǒmen zhè sān wáng , nǎi yào jiāo zaì Móyē rén de shǒu lǐ .

14 Yǐlìshā shuō , wǒ zhǐ zhe suǒ shìfèng yǒngshēng de wàn jūn Yēhéhuá qǐshì , wǒ ruò bú kàn Yóudà wáng Yuēshāfǎ de qíngmian , bì bù lǐ nǐ , bù gù nǐ .

15 Xiànzaì nǐmen gĕi wǒ zhǎo yī gè tán qín de lái . tán qín de shíhou , Yēhéhuá de líng ( yuánwén zuò shǒu ) jiù jiàng zaì Yǐlìshā shēnshang .

16 Tā biàn shuō , Yēhéhuá rúcǐ shuō , nǐmen yào zaì zhè gǔ zhōng mǎn chù wā gōu .

17 Yīnwei Yēhéhuá rúcǐ shuō , nǐmen suī bú jiàn fēng , bù jiàn yǔ , zhè gǔ bì mǎn le shuǐ , shǐ nǐmen hé shēngchù yǒu shuǐ hē .

18 Zaì Yēhéhuá yǎn zhōng zhè hái suàn wèi xiǎoshì , tā yĕ bìjiāng Móyē rén jiāo zaì nǐmen shǒu zhōng .

19 Nǐmen bì gōng pò yīqiè jiān chéng mĕi yì , kǎn fá gè zhǒng4 jiā shù , sāi zhù yīqiè shuǐ quán , yòng shítou zāo tā yīqiè mĕi tián .

20 Cì rì zǎochen , yuē zaì xiànjì de shíhou , yǒu shuǐ cóng Yǐdōng ér lái , biàn dì jiù mǎn le shuǐ .

21 Móyē zhòngrén tīngjian zhè sān wáng shàng lái yào yǔ tāmen zhēng zhàn , fán néng dǐng kuī guàn jiǎ de , wúlùn lǎo shǎo , jǐn dōu jùjí zhàn zaì biānjiè shàng .

22 Cì rì zǎochen , rì guāng zhào zaì shuǐ shàng , Móyē rén qǐlai , kànjian duìmiàn shuǐ hóng rú xuè ,

23 Jiù shuō , zhè shì xuè a . bì shì sān wáng hùxiāng jī shā , jū dōu mièwáng . Móyē rén nǎ , wǒmen xiànzaì qù qiǎngduó cáiwù ba .

24 Móyē rén dào le Yǐsèliè yíng , Yǐsèliè rén jiù qǐlai gōngdǎ tāmen , yǐzhì tāmen zaì Yǐsèliè rén miànqián taópǎo . Yǐsèliè rén wǎng qián zhuī shā Móyē rén , zhí shā rù Móyē de jìng neì ,

25 Chāihuǐ Móyē de chéngyì , gèrén pāo shí tián mǎn yīqiè mĕi tián , sāi zhù yīqiè shuǐ quán , kǎn fá gè zhǒng jiā shù , zhǐ shèngxia jí Ěr hā liè shè de shí qiáng . shuǎi shí de bīng zaì sìwéi gōngdǎ nà chéng .

26 Móyē wáng jiàn zhèn shì shén dà , nányǐ duì dí , jiù shuaìlǐng qī bǎi ná dāo de bīng , yào chōng guō zhèn qù dào Yǐdōng wáng nàli , què shì bùnéng .

27 Biàn jiāng nà yīngdāng jiēxù tā zuò wáng de zhǎngzǐ , zaì chéng shàng xiàn wèi Fánjì . Yǐsèliè rén zāoyù Yēhéhuá de dà nù ( huò zuò zhāo rén tòng hèn ) , yúshì sān wáng líkāi Móyē wáng , gè huí bĕn guó qù le .

Lièwángjìxià 3 Commentary

Chapter 3

Jehoram, king of Israel. (1-5) War with Moab, The intercession of Elisha. (6-19) Water supplied, Moab overcome. (20-27)

Verses 1-5 Jehoram took warning by God's judgment, and put away the image of Baal, yet he maintained the worship of the calves. Those do not truly repent or reform, who only part with the sins they lose by, but continue to love the sins that they think to gain by.

Verses 6-19 The king of Israel laments their distress, and the danger they were in. He called these kings together, yet he charges it upon Providence. Thus the foolishness of man perverteth his way, and then his heart fretteth against the Lord, ( Proverbs 19:3 ) . It was well that Jehoshaphat inquired of the Lord now, but it had been much better if he had done it before he engaged in this war. Good men sometimes neglect their duty, till necessity and affliction drive them to it. Wicked people often fare the better for the friendship and society of the godly. To try their faith and obedience, Elisha bids them make the valley full of pits to receive water. Those who expect God's blessings, must dig pools for the rain to fill, as in the valley of Baca, and thus make even that a well, ( Psalms 84:6 ) . We need not inquire whence the water came. God is not tied to second causes. They that sincerely seek for the dew of God's grace, shall have it, and by it be made more than conquerors.

Verses 20-27 It is a blessing to be favoured with the company of those who have power with God, and can prevail by their prayers. A kingdom may be upheld and prosper, in consequence of the fervent prayers of those who are dear to God. May we place our highest regard upon such as are most precious in his account. When sinners are saying Peace, peace, destruction comes upon them: despair will follow their mad presumption. In Satan's service and at his suggestion, such horrid deeds have been done, as cause the natural feelings of the heart to shudder; like the king of Moab's sacrificing his son. It is well not to urge the worst of men to extremities; we should rather leave them to the judgment of God.

INTRODUCTION TO 2 KINGS 3

This chapter gives the character of Jehoram king of Israel, 2Ki 3:1-3, relates the rebellion of the king of Moab against him, 2Ki 3:4,5, the war that he and his allies entered into on that account, 2Ki 3:6-9 the distress the combined army were in for want of water, their application upon this to Elisha, who promised them water, and they had it in a wonderful manner, 2Ki 3:10-20 and the chapter is concluded with the rout of the Moabites, and the barbarity of their king to his eldest son, 2Ki 3:21-27.
