Luke 6:30

30 To every one that asks of thee, give; and from him that takes away what is thine, ask it not back.

Luke 6:30 Meaning and Commentary

Luke 6:30

And give to every man that asketh
(See Gill on Matthew 5:42)

And of him that taketh away thy goods;
not by force, but by consent, having either lent them, or sold them to him: for if they were taken away by force, the person so taking them was to be deemed a thief and a robber, and to be treated as such; but one that takes them by agreement, and is not able to make a return of them, or to give a valuable consideration for them, of such an one ask them not again: do not exact or demand them, but give him a release, as the law requires, in ( Deuteronomy 15:2 ) which seems to be respected here; and where the same word is used by the Septuagint, as here.

Luke 6:30 In-Context

28 bless those that curse you; pray for those who use you despitefully.
29 To him that smites thee on the cheek, offer also the other; and from him that would take away thy garment, forbid not thy body-coat also.
30 To every one that asks of thee, give; and from him that takes away what is thine, ask it not back.
31 And as ye wish that men should do to you, do *ye* also to them in like manner.
32 And if ye love those that love you, what thank is it to you? for even sinners love those that love them.
