22 And 1of Dan he said, 2"Dan is a lion's cub 3that leaps from Bashan."
23 And 4of Naphtali he said, "O Naphtali, sated with favor, and full of the blessing of the LORD, 5possess the lake[a] and the south."
24 And 6of Asher he said, "Most blessed of sons be Asher; let him be the favorite of his brothers, and let him 7dip his foot in oil.
25 Your bars shall be iron and bronze, and as your days, so shall your strength be.
26 8"There is none like God, O 9Jeshurun, 10who rides through the heavens to your help, through the skies in his majesty.
27 The eternal God is your 11dwelling place,[b] and underneath are the everlasting arms.[c] And he thrust out the enemy before you and said, Destroy.
28 So Israel lived in safety, 12Jacob lived 13alone,[d] in a land of grain and wine, whose heavens drop down dew.
29 Happy are you, O Israel! 14Who is like you, a people 15saved by the LORD, 16the shield of your help, and the sword of your triumph! Your enemies shall come fawning to you, and you shall tread upon their backs."

Deuteronomy 33:22-29 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO DEUTERONOMY 33

This chapter relates the blessings Moses pronounced upon the people of Israel a little before his death; first, in general, on account of their having a law given them in so glorious a manner, De 33:1-5; then, in particular, each of the tribes distinctly is blessed, Reuben, De 33:6; Judah, De 33:7; Levi, De 33:8-11; Benjamin, De 33:12; Joseph, De 33:13-17; Zebulun and Issachar, De 33:18,19; Gad, De 33:20,21; Dan, De 33:22; Naphtali, De 33:23; Asher, De 33:24,25; and the chapter is concluded with some strong intimations of what God was unto the people of Israel in general, and of what he had done and would do for them; all which are expressive of their great happiness, De 33:26-29.
