The word of the LORD came to me:
"Son of man, take up a lament1 concerning Tyre.
Say to Tyre,2 situated at the gateway to the sea,3 merchant of peoples on many coasts, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: " 'You say, O Tyre, "I am perfect in beauty.4"
Your domain was on the high seas; your builders brought your beauty to perfection.55
They made all your timbers of pine trees from Senira;6 they took a cedar from Lebanon7 to make a mast for you.
Of oaks8 from Bashan they made your oars; of cypress woodb from the coasts of Cyprusc9 they made your deck, inlaid with ivory.
Fine embroidered linen10 from Egypt was your sail and served as your banner; your awnings were of blue and purple11 from the coasts of Elishah.128
Men of Sidon and Arvad13 were your oarsmen; your skilled men, O Tyre, were aboard as your seamen.149
Veteran craftsmen of Gebald15 were on board as shipwrights to caulk your seams. All the ships of the sea16 and their sailors came alongside to trade for your wares.
