Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.12
By the seventh day2 God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he resteda from all his work.33
And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy,4 because on it he rested5 from all the work of creating6 that he had done.
This is the account7 of the heavens and the earth when they were created.8 When the LORD God made the earth and the heavens--
and no shrub of the field had yet appeared on the earthb and no plant of the field had yet sprung up,9 for the LORD God had not sent rain on the earthc10 and there was no man to work the ground,
but streamsd came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground--
the LORD God formed11 the mane12 from the dust13 of the ground14 and breathed into his nostrils the breath15 of life,16 and the man became a living being.178
Now the LORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden;18 and there he put the man he had formed.
And the LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground--trees19 that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life20 and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.21
