Hear the word of the LORD,1 you rulers of Sodom;2 listen to the law3 of our God, you people of Gomorrah!411
"The multitude of your sacrifices-- what are they to me?" says the LORD. "I have more than enough of burnt offerings, of rams and the fat of fattened animals;5 I have no pleasure6 in the blood of bulls7 and lambs and goats.812
When you come to appear before me, who has asked this of you,9 this trampling of my courts?
Stop bringing meaningless offerings!10 Your incense11 is detestable12 to me. New Moons,13 Sabbaths and convocations14-- I cannot bear your evil assemblies.
Your New Moon15 festivals and your appointed feasts16 my soul hates.17 They have become a burden to me;18 I am weary19 of bearing them.
When you spread out your hands20 in prayer, I will hide21 my eyes from you; even if you offer many prayers, I will not listen.22 Your hands23 are full of blood;2416
wash25 and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight!26 Stop doing wrong,2717
learn to do right!28 Seek justice,29 encourage the oppressed.a30 Defend the cause of the fatherless,31 plead the case of the widow.3218
"Come now, let us reason together,"33 says the LORD. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow;34 though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.35
