Isaiah 1:4-14 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
4 Ah, sinful nation, a people loaded with guilt,1 a brood of evildoers,2 children given to corruption!3 They have forsaken4 the LORD; they have spurned the Holy One5 of Israel and turned their backs6 on him. 5 Why should you be beaten7 anymore? Why do you persist8 in rebellion?9 Your whole head is injured, your whole heart10 afflicted.11 6 From the sole of your foot to the top of your head12 there is no soundness13-- only wounds and welts14 and open sores, not cleansed or bandaged15 or soothed with oil.16 7 Your country is desolate,17 your cities burned with fire;18 your fields are being stripped by foreigners19 right before you, laid waste as when overthrown by strangers.20 8 The Daughter of Zion21 is left22 like a shelter in a vineyard, like a hut23 in a field of melons, like a city under siege. 9 Unless the LORD Almighty had left us some survivors,24 we would have become like Sodom, we would have been like Gomorrah.25 10 Hear the word of the LORD,26 you rulers of Sodom;27 listen to the law28 of our God, you people of Gomorrah!29 11 "The multitude of your sacrifices-- what are they to me?" says the LORD. "I have more than enough of burnt offerings, of rams and the fat of fattened animals;30 I have no pleasure31 in the blood of bulls32 and lambs and goats.33 12 When you come to appear before me, who has asked this of you,34 this trampling of my courts? 13 Stop bringing meaningless offerings!35 Your incense36 is detestable37 to me. New Moons,38 Sabbaths and convocations39-- I cannot bear your evil assemblies. 14 Your New Moon40 festivals and your appointed feasts41 my soul hates.42 They have become a burden to me;43 I am weary44 of bearing them.
