Isaiah 1:6-16 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
6 From the sole of your foot to the top of your head1 there is no soundness2-- only wounds and welts3 and open sores, not cleansed or bandaged4 or soothed with oil.5 7 Your country is desolate,6 your cities burned with fire;7 your fields are being stripped by foreigners8 right before you, laid waste as when overthrown by strangers.9 8 The Daughter of Zion10 is left11 like a shelter in a vineyard, like a hut12 in a field of melons, like a city under siege. 9 Unless the LORD Almighty had left us some survivors,13 we would have become like Sodom, we would have been like Gomorrah.14 10 Hear the word of the LORD,15 you rulers of Sodom;16 listen to the law17 of our God, you people of Gomorrah!18 11 "The multitude of your sacrifices-- what are they to me?" says the LORD. "I have more than enough of burnt offerings, of rams and the fat of fattened animals;19 I have no pleasure20 in the blood of bulls21 and lambs and goats.22 12 When you come to appear before me, who has asked this of you,23 this trampling of my courts? 13 Stop bringing meaningless offerings!24 Your incense25 is detestable26 to me. New Moons,27 Sabbaths and convocations28-- I cannot bear your evil assemblies. 14 Your New Moon29 festivals and your appointed feasts30 my soul hates.31 They have become a burden to me;32 I am weary33 of bearing them. 15 When you spread out your hands34 in prayer, I will hide35 my eyes from you; even if you offer many prayers, I will not listen.36 Your hands37 are full of blood;38 16 wash39 and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight!40 Stop doing wrong,41
